Annual Campaign

You know the challenges that we face in Burbank. People of all ages and backgrounds are struggling to reach their full potential. More and more children face learning gaps. Families find it difficult to spend quality time together. And instead of seeing the income gap shrink, it seems all we do is watch it grow.

But where society falls short, the Y – and donors like you – step in. Together we make a difference in the lives of thousands of people and a huge impact on each individual we serve.

After more than 90 years of serving Burbank, the Y understands what our community needs to be its best. Working with generous donors like you, the Y provides everyone the opportunity to be healthy and thrive, to connect with others, and contribute to a better community. Everything the Y does is in service of making us – as individuals and a community – better.

Every dollar donated to the Burbank Community YMCA stays local and has a lasting impact on the people of Burbank. Your support helps thousands of youth and families live healthier and happier lives. It enables kids to do better in school. It provides seniors with opportunities to connect with others.

The Y is your partner, standing with you to strengthen our community. Make a donation today and take your first step in making a difference and building a better us.

The Y: For a better you. For a better community. For a better us.

Youth Development

We believe that all children and youth should be given the opportunity to reach their full potential in spirit, mind and body. We're here to make that happen. Through the Y, thousands of youth today are cultivating the values, social skills and relationships that lead to positive behaviors, better health and educational achievement. That creates confident kids today and healthier, happier grown-ups tomorrow. Every day, YMCA programs like Preschool, Before & After School, Summer Day Camp and Youth Sports give children in Burbank opportunity for learning and development.

Achievement GapThis summer, in partnership with Burbank Unified School District, we are expanding the Learn Grow Thrive Summer Day Camp, which is designed to mitigate the Achievement Gap often experienced by lower-income students. Based on the success of the pilot program in 2014 and 2015, LGT Camp provides summer learning and enrichment to second and third grade BUSD students reading below level. Students who read proficiently by third grade are four times more likely to graduate from high school.

LGT Camp teaches reading skills over the summer so students may catch up before sustained academic loss can occur. Equally important is the enriching YMCA summer day camp experience of the physical activites, field trips and fun that develops children holistically. With the help of donors like you, we plan to expand Learn Grow Thrive from 40 to 120 kids at no cost to the families.

Healthy Living

We believe that healthy living habits dramatically improve the quality of life for individuals and families. We're here to teach, encourage and support healthy lifestyles. We help children and adults understand and value their health, and we nurture their well-being. The Y brings families closer together, encourages good health, and fosters connections through fitness, sports, fun and shared interests.

For Sanyo, the Burbank Y has been a place of solace in difficult times, including a divorce and depression. "I always left feeling better than when I arrived and it felt good to provide an example for my daughter. Financial Assistance alleviated my stress over affordability," she said. When her new husband Josh's back was injured in a car accident, the Y was there for them. "After failed surgery, ineffective physical therapy, and awful side effects from pain killers, he eventually stopped it all and joined me at the Y. After one year of regular yoga, weights and cardio, I am happy to report Josh is now strong, healthy and productive again. The gift of mental and physical health is priceless and I will forever be grateful to the Burbank YMCA for providing us that."

Donors like you allow us to support our community with over $300,000 of assistance annually so that children, families and seniors can benefit from YMCA programs.

Social Responsibility

We believe that by helping our neighbors, all our lives are deeply enriched and our community is strengthened. We're here to work together with you and others to create a stronger, more vital and inclusive community. We've been listening and responding to critical community needs since day one. Whether developing skills or emotional well-being, welcoming and connecting diverse populations or advocating for healthier Servicescommunities, the Y fosters the care and respect all people need and deserve.

Family PromiseStephanie and her family came to the Y through Family Promise of the Verdugos, whose mission is to provide local, first-time homeless families the resources they need to get back on their feet. After losing their home and sleeping on friends' couches for months, they ended up in a shelter which closed in the daytime, forcing them to spend their days outside in harsh heat. "I was sick, lost and very afraid. The looks in the eyes of my 13-year-old son and my 7-year-old granddaughter made me break down." They finally found respite as guests of Family Promise. Local churches provide living accommodations and the Burbank Y supplies a membership so that the families have a place to shower. But just as important, the Y membership provides programs that help families grow in spirit, mind and body. Stephanie spoke to the impact on her family: "My son Nathan got accepted into Y Basketball and it was at that time, when he started playing, that I saw the light come back into his eyes."
